April 14th
Doesn’t it look like they’re looking upwards, maybe to some different horizon?
They’re definitely traveling somewhere. Guitar slung to their back, left foot in front of the other, slightly bent as to imply movement. Maybe they reached their destination–the subtle, open-mouthed grin an artifact of arrival. I’m jealous about that. I’m not sure what pronouns they use.
Justinus K – the rest of the name is blocked by a sign: “Kein Trinkwasser”. I only then realized the statue is a fountain. What’s the point of this fountain memorializing someone if we can’t remember them?
I open my bag and fill my bottle with the water anyway. I saw someone else doing it too – it must not be that dangerous. Next to the fountain I see a pile of clothing – mostly socks – I wonder if someone is washing them with the fountain.
Maybe it doesn’t matter who this statue is after anyway. Maybe it’s the fact that someone remembered something that they don’t want to forget. If it weren’t for the first name, I could even imagine it’s my sister Nettie.
Maybe it’s her washing her socks here.
